Fall Youth Events Recap

It’s been a wonderful Fall for the young folks with lots of cool outdoors events and activities. I’ve been asked to give a recap of some of them. There were 94 children that signed in at the Kay Danchak Memorial Youth Day at the Grahamsville Fairgrounds. Sports Editor Crystal Tweed did a great job of covering it already.

73 youth were registered at the Sullivan County Longbeards Chapter of the NWTF annual Jakes Event at the Roscoe-Rockland Firemen’s Field. That’s a lot of kids having a good time.

These things don’t happen in a vacuum. It takes a lot of hard work by a lot of dedicated volunteers. The firemen donated the use of their field. Lots of local businesses donated prizes and supplies. The nice folks from the Diehl Homestead Farm donated maple cotton candy. They do so every year.

When the DEC was unable to provide fish, the Beaverkill Trout Hatchery saved the day and donated trout for the young folks to catch. A special shout out to Sherry Shaver and her amazing staff for helping. All of these folks deserve our thanks and support.

There was an amazing drone demonstration and fresh squeezed cider made from honey crisp apples. The weather was great and there were nothing but smiles to be seen on all of the young faces.

Butch Kortright provided the bluebird house kits. He and his wife Donna coordinate the event and arrange for the donations. The work involved is tremendous and they deserve a huge “Thank you” for the countless hours that they contribute to make it all happen.
