DAMASCUS, PA – On May 9 and 10, Farm Arts Collective will present the performance, Carburetor: A Ghost Sonata at the new Agri-Cultural Center on Willow Wisp Organic Farm. Farm Arts Collective welcomes long-time friend and collaborator, Jessica López-Barkl who brings a deeply personal new work entitled Carburetor: A Ghost Sonata. Written by López-Barkl and directed by her husband, Nick López, this original ensemble theatre performance explores how a neurodiverse person experiences grief, how they see the world, and experience love. Exploring the connection between 3 generations of neurodiverse people, the company (many neuro-diverse themselves) has created an award-winning production that was recently seen at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival early this year.
Barkl has written a dream-like musical play that is an allegory of the neurodiverse person, and the sonata musical form has inspired the structure of the play. Her sensitive and creative presentation of how non-verbal and non-speaking autistics experience the world gives audiences an opportunity to experience this point of view with a unique use of language and non-linear kaleidoscopic storytelling.
The cast includes Joe Cólon, Kyra Lee Zanatta, Ayana Banks, Jada Lawson, and James Faraci.
Showtime both nights is 7pm. Suggested pay-what-you-can ticket price is $20 and can ONLY be purchased at the door (no online sales).
Following the performance there will be a reception with light farm-fresh fare, BYOB.
Farm Arts Collective is located at 38 Hickory Lane, Damascus, PA 18415.
