The First Presbyterian Church of Liberty will present a special jazz worship service on Sunday, October 11 at 4:30 p.m. in the Church sanctuary, 81 South Main Street in Liberty. The program will feature the Joe Vincent Tranchina Quartet made up of professional musicians from the Hudson Valley.
The program will feature unique jazz arrangements of familiar and beloved hymns with opportunities for solo licks from each of the quartet. The group is led by Joe Tranchina, pianist, composer and arranger with his vocalist wife and partner, Gabriele Tranchina, along with bassist Lew Scott and renowned drummer Art Lillard.
The Group collectively has decades of experience as performers, arrangers, composers and educators, from solo albums and books to studio recordings and working with some of the world’s most distinguished artists in jazz, classical and popular music.
Admission is free to all, with a freewill donation to assist in restoration of the Church’s magnificent King David window, one of seven glorious stained-glass windows from the 19th Century. This service is offered in addition to the congregation’s regular 11:00 a.m. service so that churches across the community can attend. Along with special arrangements of such beloved hymns as “How Great Thou Art” and “Amazing Grace,” Joe and Gabby will lead the congregation in singing “He’s Got the Whole World In HIs Hands” and “Precious Lord, Take My Hand.”
