Eldred, NY – Come to Sunshine Hall Free Library on Saturday, February 1 at 3:00 as we kick off a Free Winter Film Series with Double Indemnity, a 1944 American film noir adapted from James M. Cain’s novel of the same name.

The film stars Fred MacMurry  as insurance salesman Walter Neff, who plots with a woman (Barbara Stanwyck) to kill her husband to claim a life insurance payment. The film was nominated for seven Academy awards. Widely regarded as a classic, it is often cited as having set the standard for film noir and as one of the greatest films of all time.

The Big Sleep, a 1946 film with Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart, adapted from Raymond Chandler’s 1939 novel, will be featured on Saturday February 1y. The series continues March 1 with a “people’s choice” film — suggestions are welcome!

The final film, on March 14, will be The Big Combo, a 1955 film noir with Cornel Wilde and Jean Wallace. The film was initially called The Hoodlum based on a story by Philip Yordan.

All films are at 3:00 PM, and will be presented by local author and musician Mike Edison.
