Free Mobile Grocery Unit coming to Monticello

MONTICELLO – Through Assemblymember Paula Kay’s partnership with “Access: Supports for Living”, residents will be able to “shop” for groceries for free at the Mobile Grocery Unit on October 19 from 11a.m. to 2 p.m. at Kay’s Monticello office at 461 Broadway.

In addition to providing groceries, Access staff will also be there to help Medicaid recipients connect to services including housing, transportation, employment, mental health care, and addiction support, according to an October 9 press release from Kay’s office.

“I’ve focused a lot of my energy on fighting food insecurity head-on in our community,” said Kay. “No one in Sullivan County or Orange County should fear where their next meal is coming from or have to decide on a weekly basis between eating and keeping the lights on.”

Kay thanked Access staff and the Village of Monticello for their enthusiastic contribution.

“Good health begins with having access to the basics,” said Access President Ronald Colavito. “And that includes fresh, nutritious food. Through our partnership with Hudson Valley Care Coalition, the Mobile Grocery helps remove barriers to healthy food while connecting people to other services that can improve their lives… This is what strong community partnerships can accomplish when we work together to meet people where they are.”
