Hortonville Field Day marks 91st year

Posted

The Hortonville Volunteer Fire Department hosted its 91st annual Field Day and Parade on Saturday, August 23, drawing neighbors, families and fellow fire companies to the hamlet.

The day began at noon with the parade, featuring area fire departments in uniform and a number of antique trucks rolling down Main Street. Afterward, the crowd gathered at the firehouse pavilion for food, music and fellowship.

The department’s chicken barbecue was once again the centerpiece, with hundreds of chickens cooked alongside cheeseburgers, sausage and peppers, hotdogs, fries, and other favorites. Entertainment included live music, a DJ, and the ever-popular betting wheel, which kept the crowd gathered by the beer tent throughout the afternoon.

It was also the first Field Day for Fire Chief Eric Dnistrian in his new role. He credited members and their families for making the day a success. “It’s a team effort,” Dnistrian said.

The annual celebration is a key fundraiser for the fire company, helping to support equipment and operations while maintaining a tradition that has brought the community together for nearly a century.
