T

he Janice Center held its Spring Dance and Instrumental Recitals on June 12 and 23 making it 75 Recitals for the Jeffersonville-based arts center since opening in 2008. During that span, more than 2,000 students have participated, several starting at 4 years old and going right through their senior year in high school.

The Spring Dance Recital was held at the Sullivan West High School Auditorium with student dancers ages 4-18 performing 16 routines to Classic Rock songs from the past 50 years. They included The Time of Your Life, Vienna, Forever Young, Cult of Personality, Dream On and Walk This Way.

It was another “Banner” night as two Wall of Fame Banners were presented to graduating seniors Kaitlyn Drobysh and Peyton Stevenson. They were just the eighth and ninth recipients of the Wall of Fame Banner in the 19-history of The Janice Center. It is a rare achievement honoring only those students who have taken dance classes continuously from Pre-K/Kindergarten through high school.

A Standing Room only audience enjoyed the Instrumental Recital held at The Janice Center on June 23. Drum, guitar, flute and piano students ages 5-16 performed pieces covering a range of musical genres.

The Janice Center, located on Route 52 in Jeffersonville is a one-stop shop for the arts. In addition to dance and instrumental lessons, a popular Music Together program is offered for ages 0-4. For more information, please call 845-482-3324.
