Skunk Alert! February through early March is skunk breeding season. Before you let your dogs out, make a little noise and give skunks time to move out of your yard. If you come face to face with one of these creatures, stay calm (LOL), talk softly to them(LOL again), and let them know you are there. They have very limited eyesight and really do not want to spray you – just avoid startling them. Several warnings they are scared: stomping their front feet, do a handstand, and of course turn their back on you – they will spray up to 10 feet away. Growing up we had friends in Rochester that had the most beautiful skunk named of course, “Thumper.” Such a sweet animal and they enjoyed pranking their friends. That was many years ago when you could make them a pet.
