As we settle into December, Lake Huntington is starting to sparkle with that familiar holiday magic. Porches are glowing a little brighter each night, local shops are buzzing, and everyone seems to be squeezing in those last-minute preparations before Christmas arrives. Whether you’re decking the halls, baking treats, or simply trying to slow down and enjoy the season, our little corner of the Catskills feels especially cozy this time of year.
Here are some events happening in our community and beyond:
The Smugglers Nob Rod & Gun Club will host its Annual Youth Ice Fishing Tournament on Sunday, February 1, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Mitchell Pond in Cochecton, New York. Held in memory of Gerald “Jerry” Bruce Sheppard, this event invites families to bring kids out for a fun-filled day on the ice. All children fish for free and will receive food and beverages, with additional food and drinks available for purchase for adults. Every participating child is eligible for prizes. Fishing regulations will follow NYSDEC guidelines, and access to the pond will be at 175 Mitchell Pond West Road. Transportation to the fishing area will be provided by club members, and no outside ATVs or UTVs are permitted. Registration will take place upon entry. For more information, attendees can contact Harold “Boomer” Russell at (845) 583-6602 or Kevin Esselman at (845) 932-7829.
Yoga by the Lake invites you to step into 2026 with something gentler than resolutions—space to breathe. Their New Year’s Day workshop is designed to help you ease into January with calm instead of urgency, offering a slow, nurturing practice that supports clarity and intention rather than pressure to reinvent yourself. It’s a chance to ground back into your body after the holiday rush, reconnect with what truly matters, and welcome the year ahead with steadiness. A simple creative ritual closes the session, giving you a meaningful way to anchor your intention for the months to come. If you’ve been craving a soft reset or a moment of peace, this workshop is a beautiful way to begin the year by choosing yourself first.
