As the first week of the new year ends, I extend my warmest wishes to our families, friends, and neighbors throughout Lake Huntington and the surrounding community. A new year offers a fresh start and a chance to reflect on the moments that brought us together while looking ahead with optimism. May the weeks ahead be filled with good health, shared laughter, and a strong sense of community as we continue to support one another and make Lake Huntington a wonderful place to live, learn, and grow.

Here are some events happening in our community and beyond:

The Smugglers Nob Rod & Gun Club will host its Annual Youth Ice Fishing Tournament on Sunday, February 1, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Mitchell Pond in Cochecton, New York. Held in memory of Gerald “Jerry” Bruce Sheppard, this event invites families to bring kids out for a fun-filled day on the ice. All children fish for free and will receive food and beverages, with additional food and drinks available for purchase for adults. Every participating child is eligible for prizes. Fishing regulations will follow NYSDEC guidelines, and access to the pond will be at 175 Mitchell Pond West Road. Transportation to the fishing area will be provided by club members, and no outside ATVs or UTVs are permitted. Registration will take place upon entry. For more information, attendees can contact Harold “Boomer” Russell at (845) 583-6602 or Kevin Esselman at (845) 932-7829.

Let’s gather around the table for a cozy Sunday morning of painting, laughter, and quiet creativity at this special Paint & Pause. Guests are invited to sip, snack, and create a peaceful winter scene filled with soft snow, gentle branches, and fluttering little birds as we paint together step by step, blending cool winter blues and silvery light before adding a unique flock of chickadees—cluster them, flip them, or let a single bird rest quietly on a branch, with each canvas telling its own story. No experience is needed, just a cozy sweater and an open heart. Rob and I provide everything, along with warm drinks, light brunch bites, and a calm, welcoming space to unwind after the holidays. This is a morning for slowing down, savoring the moment, and letting creativity take flight—no stress, no mess, just paint and pause. Spots are limited, so reservations are encouraged. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Yoga by the Lake in Lake Huntington, with a suggested $35 pre-paid donation (class cards not valid). To RSVP, call 845-380-4441.
