Students of the Delaware Valley Job Corps were hard at work Tuesday morning working together to dig a trench in the Callicoon Depot parking lot with the purpose of installing an electrical line.
“We always have a Tree Lighting Ceremony in December but we always have to have a makeshift line,” explained Darko Hreljanovic, the President of Callicoon Depot Inc. and supervisor of the project. “We’re going to bury a line, and in addition to that, there are going to be some exterior outlets.”
Hreljanovic stated that these outlets would number about “three or four” down to the poles northwest of the lot.
A total of 18 students – in several crews – came down to help with the project throughout the day.
He also stated that they would like to get more vendors there for their own market, a la the farmers market.
If need be, these vendors would have access to an electrical outlet and power.
“Once all of this is landscaped, if they have lighting and the landscaping, we can make use of it,” said Hreljanovic.
Once his team decided that they wanted a more permanent connection for the tree, it “doesn’t pay” to have all this work done just for one connection that’s around for a month.
The team took advantage of the opportunity to upgrade the whole row with electric which will compliment the electrical work inside the Depot.
“Ultimately, there will be a rain guard... this street will provide access to the Visitor’s Center,” stated Hreljanovic. “We control the power from here [the Depot] so people wouldn’t come up and start charging their cars.”
