Manor loses 9-1 in Regional Championship against Northville Central

WALKILL–– We had a beautiful sunny Saturday afternoon in Wallkill for the Regional Championship game this past weekend. The crowd seemed excited after Manor earned a shutout win against Eldred a few days earlier for the Sectional Championships. However it seemed that the Wildcats were outplayed by the Northville Central Falcons. The Falcons didn’t let up scoring 9 goals to Manor’s 1 leaving the Wildcats to go home in defeat.

The first half started with Northville establishing an early dominance and getting some quick goal shots off. However Manor’s goalie was in prime shape and got two amazing diving stops. But at the 25 minute mark one slipped by to put the Falcons up 1-0. Around 5 minutes Northville  rocketed another shot just out of the goalies reach to make it 2-0.

Manor was struggling to even get within goal range and they were only able to take a few goal shot attempts that the Falcons easily deflected. The first half ended with Northville scoring one last time in a 1v1 with Manor’s goalie to make it 3-0 going into halftime.

7 minutes into the second half the Falcons scored again due to a mishap by Manor’s goalie who got injured on the play. She walked off but for the rest of the game the Wildcats’ back up goalie was in play. The next 20 minutes was an onslaught of goals by Northville Central as they racked up 4 more points to make it 8-0 with only 10 minutes left in the game. Manor’s Rebecca Gashinski was able to score  at the 30 minute mark but it was too little too late with Manor down 7 points. The Falcons scored one final time to end the game 9-1 and dash Manor’s hopes of going to the State Championship.

This marked the second year in a row that Manor was able to get this far in the post season. A great accomplishment. Coach Clarke had this to say after the disappointing loss, “We were outmatched plain and simple, it was a tough game and they outplayed us. It was sad to see but it happens, we look forward to what we can do next season.”
