FERNDALE — On Saturday October 4, Maurice Gerry celebrated his 95th Birthday with over 300 friends and family at the newly renovated Dowe barn on Radcliff Rd in Ferndale. The barn, that holds fond memories from his youth, was the perfect setting to celebrate this milestone event.
The night was filled with laughter as Maurice entertained the crowd with anecdotes of his life which included his adventures growing up in Ferndale, his life as a salon owner and activist in San Francisco and his return to Sullivan County in the 80’s. Among the more serious topics he touched upon were his charitable work with Mayor Moscone, Harvey Milk and Dianne Feinstein concerning the AIDS epidemic as well as his years of service as Liberty Town Councilman. He shared his appreciation for the support he has received from the community throughout the years and most recently the honor of becoming a recipient of the Liberty Wall of Fame. He expressed that his life has been full of love and friendship particularly from those in the room and for that he is grateful.
Scott Samulelson from the Bradstan/Eldred Preserve entertained guests with two of Maurice’s favorite songs; “New York, New York” and “I Left My Heart in San Francisco”. The evening ended with fireworks that lit up the skies above the fields that Maurice holds dear…Happy 95th Maurice.
