WHITE LAKE – Camp Keowa in White Lake was the perfect backdrop for the Panthers’ cross-country meet on Tuesday. The Panthers welcomed Liberty, Rockland, and Port Jervis teams as the regular season is scheduled to wrap up in just a little over one week. Monticello’s Head Coach Tom Fassell expressed his thanks to the camp for allowing the district to utilize its facilities. Modified teams were also in attendance, starting their race just before varsity took to the course. The host team’s Cameron Stalter finished first overall, finishing the course in 18:46. Stalter said it wasn’t his fastest time this season, but said his goal for the upcoming Section IX Championships is to get in the high 17s. The competition was close, with two seconds separating third, fourth, and fifth places. Monticello’s Baya Titus also finished first overall, crossing the finish line in 20:38. Jackson Sheehan (19:32) and Stella Sheehan (21:07) were the top finishers for Port Jervis. Rockland’s Alex Jones finished first for the Wolves with a time of 22:07, and teammate McKenzie Lundeen finished in 24:39. Landing in the top spots for the Liberty Redhawks were Mason Rodriguez (20:22) and Adriana Ponce (25:02). Redhawks Head Coach Ashley Weintraub said, “This is the first year in a while that we’ve had two complete teams. All our boys’ team members PR’d last week. Everyone is doing great!” Tuesday was also Senior Night for the Panthers, who graduate just one student-athlete this season, Giovanni Gutierrez. Gutierrez had an exceptional run, finishing in second place in 18:52.
