MONTICELLO–Monticello Kiwanis Club presented its Everyday Hero Award to Kathy Kreiter, Director of the Sullivan County Federation for the Homeless on Monday, August 3. Kiwanis President Marvin Rappaport called Kathy an “unsung hero” who handles a myriad of difficult responsibilities and demanding duties with a steady hand and calm demeanor.
“Kathy with her staff and dedicated volunteers are there for the homeless and the hungry day in and day out, not for the praise and recognition but for the satisfaction of seeing a job well done,” said Rappaport.
The club and its guests also heard an informative presentation by Sullivan County District Attorney Brian Conaty who described his many responsibilities keeping our County residents safe. He and his eight assistants cover 18 local Justice courts, as well as County Court and Supreme Court. They handle 4500 cases a year from misdemeanors to felonies, including firearms violations and gang related crimes.
At its July meeting, the club heard from Julian Dawson, Chief Professional Officer of United Way of Sullivan County. Dawson described how the United Way supports various county programs with most donations received remaining in the county. The organization also provides emergency food and shelter assistance, diapers and cribs for kids, as well as distributing gifts during the holiday season and meals at Thanksgiving.
Mr. Dawson was an earlier recipient of the Monticello Kiwanis Everyday Hero Award for his many years of distinguished service to the community.
The Kiwanis club of Monticello meets on the first Monday of the month at Albella Restaurant at 6 PM. Their mission is dedicated to improving the world, one child and one community at a time. Check out their Facebook page at Monticello, NY Kiwanis Club.
