New November Events at the Western Sullivan Library

SULLIVAN COUNTY— Exciting programs are in store for every day of the week at the Western Sullivan Public Library.

Start the week with Teen Mondays at the Narrowsburg Branch. Every Monday, teens are welcome in the library to hang out, socialize and do homework (maybe) after school. Zine Club (ages 12+) will meet at 3pm, followed by Podcasting Club (ages 14+) at 4pm. Brainstorm ideas, develop new projects, and create something unique to share with the world. Snacks, cozy seating, and craft supplies will be provided.

The new Dungeons & Dragons Club is led by community-member Josh Luistro and will meet on Tuesdays at 6:30pm in Jeffersonville. Teens ages 12 and up are welcome to join the campaign. Tuesday Storytime is a structured playgroup for pre-school-aged children 6 and under and their caregivers, where participants read together, sing songs, learn age-old rhymes, craft and play with friends. Storytime will meet every Tuesday at 10:00am at the Tusten-Cochecton Branch in Narrowsburg (except November 11th, when the library will be closed for Veteran’s Day).

The youngest learners (ages 0-3) are bound to have a blast during Let’s Play! on select Wednesdays from 10:15am to 11:30am. This month, the group meets on November 12th at the Tusten-Cochecton Branch, and November 26th at the Jeffersonville Branch. This dynamic playgroup is designed for the more active child. It’s a safe space for families to connect and children to interact with each other in open play, with music, games and literacy activities.

Family Movie Night is at the Jeffersonville Branch on Wednesday, November 5th at 6:00pm. This month’s screening is an adaptation of a fantastical novel by Cressida Cowell. Snacks, popcorn and refreshments will be served, and kids can enjoy arts & crafts before the movie. Doors at 5:30pm, film starts at 6pm. Runtime is 104 minutes.

Then on Fridays, Homeschooling families can attend our monthly Homeschool Meetup at the Jeffersonville Branch on Friday, November 7th from 11am - 12:30pm. Parents can socialize and share resources, while kids can join Miss C for a fun, all-ages educational activity.

Guest educator and chef Dale Buchheister will lead several exciting programs for families this month, including Pasta Science on November 7th at 4:30pm in Jeffersonville, and Magical Potions on November 14th at 4:30pm in Callicoon. All programs will include hands-on activities and unique takeaways.

And once a month on Saturdays, young musicians and lyricists (ages 10+) are invited to join the songwriting club, Music Makers, on Saturday, November 15th at 11:00am. Participants will learn about song structure, rhythm, and lyrics, and will work on writing their own songs with WSPL’s Youth Programmer (and singer-songwriter) Callison Stratton. Bring an instrument, a work-in-progress, or just your creativity.

Registration is required for all programs, and drop ins will be accommodated whenever possible. For more details and to sign up for any of these programs, visit the calendar at WSPLonline.org. Questions? Reach out to Callison at WSPL.childrens@gmail.com.
