NARROWSBURG – Pedro Boregaard is not your normal singer-songwriter. He doesn’t live in Laurel Canyon, or Greenwich Village, but rather in the Western Catskills. He is better-known as a master jeweler, having apprenticed at the Hemmerle Co. in Munich, worked at Tiffany’s in NYC, and as head of his own long-running atelier. Nevertheless, he has a new EP out. His first-ever. It is called Traveling Light.

The impetus for these four songs came in 2018 when Boregaard’s vision was partially lost due to macular-degeneration. Unable to sculpt new jewelry himself, or to work with wax, he picked up his old guitar and started playing. A song magically appeared. Then another. Soon he had a dozen or so and began honing them at local venues. “In a way,” says Boregaard, “music was my first love, and I found myself falling again for writing songs.”

These songs eventually came to the attention of Brian Chidester, producer of Eden Ahbez’s Dharmaland (2021), by the Swedish exotica quintet Ixtahuele. “I loved ‘Winter Is Coming’ immediately,” says Chidester, “and felt it was familiar, like something off of Nico’s Chelsea Girls or from one of Nick Drake’s ‘70s albums, but also totally unique.” Boregaard, for his part, claims ignorance of past singer-songwriters. “I was always much more into dance music” (he says).

Chidester claims it was the song “Darling” which ultimately convinced him he needed to work on this project. “It’s a pure expression,” he says, “equally heartfelt as it is articulate.” There are plenty more where that came from, insists Boregaard, just waiting to be recorded and released.

Yet in the fullness of time we are fortunate to have Traveling Light. Hear it on all major streaming platforms.  Press inquiries may be sent to: bcxists@gmail.com.
