MONTICELLO – Spring sports have begun around the county. With the area still in a meltdown from the snow and continuing to see rainy weather, teams are utilizing space inside the schools to prepare for warmer temps outside in the coming weeks…hopefully. At Monticello High School the Panthers’ outdoor track & field teams, and girls jv and varsity softball teams made good use of the ample space inside the large gym and hallways for conditioning drills.

Throwing Coach Tom Fassell instructed his team through speed ladder and developmental drills at the beginning of practice. Around the corner, members of the girls outdoor track team worked on heel and toe walks. A big part of beginning a new season of sports is taking into consideration that many students may not be transitioning from a winter sport activity or might be coming off an extended indoor season. So, it’s important to incorporate drills for injury prevention into daily workouts. By prioritizing these proactive measures, coaches hope to set the stage for a healthy, competitive, and successful season to help ensure that the athletes are ready for the upcoming competitions. Games are set to begin in Monticello next Monday, March 23.
