MONTICELLO – Tuesday afternoon’s cool weather with a slight overcast posed as the perfect back drop for a tennis match. The Monticello Panthers hosted the Liberty Redhawks. With both squads represented well with players, the teams were able to lay four singles, and one doubles match.
The Panthers ended the day with a 5 to 1 victory. Mutual respect was evident between the coaches and the student-athletes before the matches began and lasted throughout the contest.
The court buzzed with comradery as players supported one another by sharing words of encouragement. Decorations and homemade posters hung on the fence of the Monticello High School tennis courts in recognition of their two senior athletes, Liza Kolichko and Rebekah Joyce.
Both teams have now completed their regular season play. After the match Monticello coach Andrew DiCerbo said, “Our Senior Night capped off a great season of tennis for our team. Each player showed individual growth, and our team had amazing chemistry and comradery which made this group special.
As a whole, we’re happy to see the Tennis Program growing more and more each year. Next week at the Counties Tournament, Kathleen Robinholt will represent Monticello in the singles tournament. Rebekah Joyce and Liza Kilochko will also represent Monticello in the Doubles Tournament. We’re looking forward to next week and the experience that it’ll provide our team.”
