SULLIVAN COUNTY –– By popular demand the SCLB-NWTF (Sullivan County Long Beards/National Wild Turkey Federation) partnered with the FSCSC (Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs of Sullivan County) and the Aden Hunting Club to sponsor a 2nd special pheasant hunt. This hunt held January 18-19 was a very outstanding event for all individuals involved. Participating afield as hunters were 19 youth, women and veterans along with unexperienced first-time hunters.
Responsibility for making this hunt a huge success fell on the shoulders of LeJon Viningre SCLB Vice president, as hunt master with the assistance from John VanEtten president of the (FSCSC). Their crew of 7 dog handlers working with a total of 10 dogs, pointers and flushers, trekked across four different fields of fire providing a safe secure wing shooting experience.
One very surprising observation was the distance some participants traveled to attend. Traveling the furthest were a hunter from Connecticut and 3 from Long Island.
Listening to the general conversation during our lunch break for pizza was something to behold. The comradery felt in the room as the group talked about personal experiences from the hunt couldn’t have been more motivating.
Kudo’s to: The DEC, FSCSC (John Van Etten), Aden Hunting club, the NWTF-SCLB (Butch-Donna Kortright), and Gary Muthig representing all of the fore mentioned for connecting the dots.
Thanks also to the dog handlers and the participants.
