ROCKLAND – Rockland Central School District’s Ben Johnston is the featured athlete in the Player Spotlight! His  performance on the basketball court showed off his hard work, dedication and his impressive playmaking abilities.

His impressive 18.3 points per game average perfectly highlights the rare combination of high-volume scoring and selfless playmaking.

Johnston also led the Wolves in assists, and three-pointers connecting on a total of 39 buckets from behind the arc. At the free throw line Johnston shot over 80% and has netted a total of 875 career points his junior year. Johnston earned the Times Herald-Record Varsity845 Player of the Week honors during the winter season, and was named to the OCIAA All stars and BCANY All stars. This season Johnston also earned the MVP For Rockland Basketball and was selected to the Class C/D ALL State Team.

Charlie Hicks, Rockland’s head boys’ basketball coach commended Johnston on his competitive spirit and work ethic. “Ben is one of the most competitive and hard working kids I have coached in a long time. What makes him so great isn’t just his athletic ability or his stat lines but how humble and coachable he is. He never points a figure at anyone but  himself to do better. All the athletes look up to him and I am honored to coach him. I am looking forward to seeing him continue to grow as an athlete and a man. Although Johnston is just a junior, he currently plans on attending SUNY Delhi’s Electrical Program next year after graduation.
