The Sue Bunce Memorial Sullivan Freeze for the Cure will be held Saturday, January 31, at the White Lake Firehouse, raising funds for the Alzheimer’s Association through the Subzero Heroes campaign.
The event begins at 10 a.m., with the polar bear plunge into White Lake scheduled for noon at the firehouse, 1596 Route 17B. Participants and teams collect pledges ahead of the jump, with all proceeds supporting Alzheimer’s research, care and family services.
The Sullivan County plunge is held in memory of Sue Bunce, who helped establish the county’s Subzero Heroes fundraising team after losing her mother to Alzheimer’s disease.
The team, “Strike Out Alz,” has for the last four years in a row, been the highest earning team, beating out Westchester, Orange, Ulster, and Dutchess counties for the privilege of jumping in first. Last year, they raised around $23,000 and are looking to continue their streak of success.
