LIBERTY – On Wednesday, the Liberty boys’ soccer team held their “pink out” for breast cancer awareness. The entire team donned pink T-shirts. The special game is held at high schools all over to show unity during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.
It was a tentative opening 40 minutes as both teams remained cautious on the attack. The Redhawks were first to break through midway with a goal around the 22-minute mark. “I would like them to start faster,” Coach Feeney said, commenting on the first half of the game. “It took us a little while to settle in. The first half was 1-0, and it seemed like we were just a little slow to get things going.”
The second half of the game was a stark contrast to the first. The Redhawks came out of the break more aggressive and displayed exceptional vision, distribution of the ball, and excellent field awareness. The Redhawks quickly began to execute on offense, scoring their second goal just five minutes into the second half. It looked like the Redhawks were unstoppable as they scored back-to-back goals from Maynor Monroy and Franklin Barrera Andrade. Also contributing to the Redhawks’ scoring were Jose Moreno Reyes, Dylan Romero, and Irwin Barragán Rojas. The Redhawks dominated the second half to shut out the Raiders 8-0. Moreno Reyes had two assists, teammate Matt Romero also had an assist, and goalie Selkir Molina had nine saves for the Redhawks. Kayden Watch had 12 saves, and Chase Randolph had three for the Raiders.
“Overall, it was a great result for us. Everyone did their part, and it’s fantastic,” Coach Feeney said!
