LIBERTY- The Red Hook Raiders paid a visit to the Liberty Red Hawks on a cool fall windy Saturday afternoon for a non-league matchup. The Raiders had a (1-7) overall record coming into this game against the RedHawks, who were (2-6) overall heading into this contest. Once the game started the action would get off to a fast start as the RedHawks would take the opening kickoff for a touchdown. Ayden Wilson would score the first of several special teams touchdown on the day to get the scoring started. Liberty would go for the 2-point conversion and score to give them an 8-0 lead out of the gate with 11:44 to go in the first quarter.
The visiting Raiders’ first two offensive possessions of the game would result in two turnovers: an interception by RedHawk Safety Gavin Beseth, and a fumble recovery by Cornerback Ayden Wilson. The RedHawks would capitalize off the fumble recovery with a rushing touchdown by the quarterback, Beseth. Liberty would take a 14-0 lead with 3:25 remaining in the first quarter.
The next Raider possession would result in a punt. The RedHawks would score on the punt return for their second special teams’ touchdown. Chris Rodgers’ punt return touchdown would give Liberty a 20-0 lead over Red Hook with 2:09 left in the quarter.
The Raiders would find the endzone in the second quarter off a touchdown run that would make the score 20-6 Liberty with 3:26 remaining int the first half. With the following kickoff the RedHawks would answer right away with another kick return touchdown by Ayden Wilson. The third special teams’ touchdown of the day would make the score 26-6 RedHawks with 3:09 in the second quarter. The first half would conclude with the Raiders getting back on the scoreboard with a passing touchdown to make the score 26-12 Liberty.
The second half would start seeing both teams trade multiple offensive possessions with punts, turnovers, and turnovers on downs. The game became chippy in the third quarter as a scuffle between the two teams would result in an ejection of a Red Hook Raider player for throwing a punch at a Liberty RedHawk. Both teams would look to remain composed as the game continued.
The third quarter would end with no points being scored, keeping the game at 26-12 RedHawks, leading into the fourth quarter.
The RedHawks would find the endzone late in the fourth quarter on a touchdown run by quarterback Gavin Beseth. The second rushing score on the day by Beseth would bring the score to 32-12 with 1:32 left in the game.
The game would end with time expiring seeing the Liberty RedHawks win 32-12. The victory for Liberty would see their record improve to (3-6). The loss for Red Hook would drop their record to (1-8) for the season.
