CALLICOON — Downtown Callicoon was a sea of people early Sunday morning as 413 runners and walkers took over Main Street for the start of the annual Delaware Youth Center River Race.

With the mercury dipping down into the low 60s, registrants for this year’s race enjoyed a rare respite from the summer heat as they ran and walked to raise money for the community center. One of the biggest fundraisers of the year for the DYC, the River Race has become a tradition in Callicoon with River Road shut down for a few hours one morning in July, so race participants can head out on a scenic route right along the river.

Crossing the finish line first overall in this year’s 5K was Evan Fitzpatrick, who came across the finish line at 18:06, with Alaina Keller grabbing the top spot for female finishers in the 5K with her 19:35 finish.

Kai Dresher ran the 10K in 38:36 to earn his first-place medal in the longer race. Amy Neugebauer was the top finisher in the women’s 10K, running the 6.2-mile course in 43:57. For full results, visit https://www.secondwindtiming.com/result -page/?id=411390#0_80CC55.
