Rockland Wolves win 63-62 over the Bulldogs

LAKE HUNTINGTON – The Rockland Wolves and the Sullivan West Bulldogs met for the first time this season on Wednesday night. After 32 minutes of hard-fought, closely played basketball, the Bulldogs would come out on the losing end again in a game decided by the last shot.

Rockland came out with strong shooting, taking a 20–12 lead at the end of the first period. Sullivan West was getting shots, especially off second-chance rebounds, but couldn’t capitalize and fell behind.

In the second period, the Bulldogs started shooting better, and with 3:39 left in the half, they had cut the Wolves’ lead to five. The Bulldogs would have been closer if not for the timely shooting of Rockland’s Tyler McRay, who had 12 points for the night, and a focused defense that kept Sullivan West in check.

The Bulldogs kept coming, cutting the lead to three with a wild 3-point shot from Alec Hubert from near half court as the first half buzzer sounded.

The start of the second half saw Sullivan West continue their advances, and with 3:28 left in the third, they had taken a one-point lead in the game.

The Bulldogs had a 47–46 advantage at the beginning of the fourth quarter, but had trouble getting any further ahead with turnovers continuing to plague them. The start of the fourth period saw the lead going back and forth as Ben Johnston of Rockland, 22 points, and Seamus Johnston of Sullivan West, 18 points, put on a shooting clinic.

Calvin Powell got the Bulldogs within one with 29 seconds left and it seemed like the momentum was on their side, but with a clutch free throw from Rockland’s Patrick Gorr, and a couple of missed shots from Sullivan West, it all came down to a wild off balance shot at the end that missed the mark giving the (10 - 3) Rockland Wolves the 63-62 win.
