MONTICELLO – The Sullivan County Chamber Orchestra (SCCO) would like to invite you to a one night only performance of SCCO co-founder Akiko Hosoi in recital. Akiko will be accompanied by pianist Vladimir Rumyantsev in a program that will include César Franck’s Sonata for Violin and Piano and Romance by Amy Beach. The performance is November 25th at 5:30 PM at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 15 St. John St, Monticello NY, 12701. Tickets are a suggested donation of $25 and will be available at the door or to reserve online visit: https://linktr.ee/nesinculturalarts.
The Franck sonata is a staple in the repertoire of any violinist and is considered one of the finest sonatas for violin and piano ever composed. The composition fuses his rich native harmonic language with classical traditions held together in a cyclic form creating one of the truest sonata forms in the repertoire. The popularity of the work has led to many arrangements including viola, cello, bass, tuba, and organ with choir.
Amy Beach was on the verge of a brilliant career until she married at the age of 18 and for social propriety’s sake her husband as a member of Boston’s upper-class society, insisted she only performed once per year. Upon his death, Amy embarked on a global career to great success and composed for most genres, forging a path for women in the arts industry in America. Her compositions are the late romantic style like the styles of Brahms and César Frank. The Romance was composed early in Beach’s career and was dedicated to Maud Powell, a powerhouse in her own right for breaking barriers in the industry. We hope to see you there!
