SCCO to Perform a Midsummer Night’s Dream

WHITE LAKE & NARROWSBURG – The Sullivan County Chamber Orchestra (SCCO), a project of Nesin Cultural Arts, proudly presents its upcoming signature family program, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” It’s an enchanting, all-ages interactive concert experience. The performances are Saturday, June 27th at 2:00 p.m. at the Reformed Presbyterian Church of White Lake, 6 Mattison Road, White Lake and Sunday, June 28th at 2:00 p.m. at the Tusten Theater, 210 Bridge Street, Narrowsburg, presented by the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance.

Tickets: $25 for adults and free for youngsters 12 and under. Saturday: nesinculturalarts.

Sunday: https://delawarevalleyartsalliance.org/performances. This captivating performance brings Shakespeare’s most musical comedy to life through an interactive concert experience designed for families and listeners of all generations. Running exactly 75 minutes with no intermission, the program will serve as a journey into Mendelssohn’s masterwork. To guide the audience into this enchanted forest, the ensemble utilizes a specialized dectet configuration of ten virtuosic players (five strings and five winds) to map out a vivid musical trajectory.

The performance is a bridge between the human world and the spirit world. We are inviting families to explore how ten acoustic instruments can recreate an imaginative experience. From the light, scurrying wings of the fairy queen’s court to the lower strings mimicking a braying donkey, the music does all the storytelling.

Prior to the event, families and classrooms had access to downloadable listening maps and educational resources via social media. During the performance, young audience members will actively track the narrative, learning to identify complex musical themes, trace instrument dialogues, and experience the mechanics of orchestral                       world-building firsthand. This program is made possible in part by funding from the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Kathleen Courtney Hochul and the New York State Legislature, the Sullivan County Youth Bureau, Episcopal Charities and the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance.
