WESTERN SULLIVAN COUNTY – The library branches of the Western Sullivan Public Library have a lot planned for the month of September for adults:

 

BONE BUILDERS is an exercise program designed to help individuals aged 65+ maintain bone mass and build on existing bone mass but is open to all. This program will take place weekly on Thursdays 11 am - 12 pm, September 10th - November 19th, at the Western Sullivan Public Library Community Room in Jeffersonville. Bring a water bottle, floor mat or towel, and your own 1-2 lb. weights!

 

The Caregiver Resource Center is a co-partnered program between Cornell Cooperative Extension and Office for the Aging of Sullivan County and is supported by a grant from the NYS Office for the Aging’s Caregiver Program. Cornell Cooperative Extension Sullivan County provides equal program and employment opportunities. Contact the office to request accommodations.

 

The Callicoon Branch of the Western Sullivan Public Library continues its 2026 Open Mic/Spoken Word series on the fourth Friday of the month, September 25th. Creative writers ages 16 and up in all genres are invited to read an original poem or short prose piece in a three-minute time slot. Sign up for open mic begins at 5:45 pm, with readings between 6 and 7 pm, followed by a reading or performance by guest artists between 7 and 8 pm.

 

Cricut Machine Meet-Up is happening Wednesday, September 16th at 5:30pm at the Jeffersonville Branch. We encourage people who know their Cricut machine well to train others on new techniques.

 

Join Ciera and other crafters at Craft Lovers on Friday, September 18th from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at the Callicoon Branch to make mini mushroom displays! All supplies will be provided.   

 

Every Monday, the Narrowsburg Knitters meet at 6pm at the Tusten-Cochecton branch in Narrowsburg. Join for an evening of knitting, crocheting, and other needle crafts, as well as sharing ideas and showing off your latest projects. Every Thursday, from 1:00pm to 3:00pm come for our Sew-cial Circle aka our Needle Crafts group at the Jeffersonville Branch. 

 

Cooking Series with Chef Dale Buchheister - For the first session on Wednesday, September 9th at 5:30 in the Jeffersonville Branch, Dale will be making his famous "Marry Me" Chicken. For the second session on Wednesday, September 30th at 5:30 in the Jeffersonville Branch, Dale will walk us through the benefits of using stock, sofritos, and other pantry staples to make an easy pasta meal. For the third and final session on Wednesday, October 15th at 5:30 in our Jeffersonville Branch, Dale will make a hot dip, a cold dip, pita bread, bruschetta, and crudites which can be enjoyed by a group.

 

DIY Energy Saving Session - Join Steve Bonds-Liptay, Energy Advisor from the Cornell Cooperative Extension, for an energy saving session on Friday, September 19th at 6pm at our Narrowsburg Branch. Register now to reserve a FREE energy kit ($45 value!) and learn how to take simple, D.I.Y. “do-it-yourself” actions to reduce energy waste and save money on your utility bills.

 

Medicare 101 Workshops - Local insurance agent Stephanie Margulies will examine how a senior can navigate the changes to Medicare as well as learning about the benefits that they may be eligible for.

Potions for Fall: Canning & Preserving

On Wednesday, September 23rd at 5pm at our Narrowsburg Branch, join local Chef Dale Buchheister to get advice, tips, & tricks on the benefits and dangers of canning. Learn about the 3 different ways to can food (air, water, and steam) as well as optimize your budget.

 

Monthly Recurring Adult Programs at WSPL:

 

Free technical and computer support is available at each of the branches. Make an appointment with computer tech Dale, either in-person, via zoom, or by phone.  Support is available from 1pm to 4pm by appointment, Mondays at Narrowsburg, Tuesdays at Jeffersonville, and Wednesdays at Callicoon. 

 

Senior Tech Series features a different topic every month where patrons can learn about new technology or trends. This month the topic is WSPL Apps, Sites, and fun and will be on September 14th, 15th, and 16th in Narrowsburg, Jeffersonville, and Callicoon, respectively.

 

NEW Italian Conversation Hour will be on Monday, September 28th at 3pm at the Callicoon Branch. Speakers of all skill levels are encouraged and welcome to join! Come to listen or engage in discussions with other locals who are learning Italian or are native speakers.

 

Board Game Day is on Saturday, September 26th from 10am to 1pm at the Jeffersonville Branch. Bring friends or make new ones! Generic games will be provided but you are welcome to bring your own.
