LIBERTY – Shine the Light is a new art opportunity coming to the Liberty Museum and Arts Center, LMAC. The goal is to fill the eight windows of the historic building at 46 South Main Street, Liberty with 2-foot-by-6-foot pieces of original artwork. The displays will be rotated every two months, from December 2025 to March 2026.

For three days in October, the Liberty Museum and Arts Center will host the artists as they create their selected artwork on site. There will be an opportunity for the public to see the artists at work. Watch and learn as the large artwork comes to life, right on Main Street.

Submissions include two parts, the Call for Submission registration form and a proof of concept. The electronic Call for Submissions form is available at https://forms.gle/KzhFycGT771wUGNV7. The artist’s concept will be accepted via email and can be submitted in various formats, including an image in a Google Doc or Word Doc, a PNG, or a JPEG. Further details are in the Call for Submission form. For artists who need a paper version of the form, they can stop by the Liberty Museum and Arts Center during regular hours, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, 12-4pm. The due date for both the registration form and the proof of concept is 11:59 pm on September 15. By the end of September, the jury’s decision will be shared with the artists.

For further information, call the Liberty Museum and Arts Center at 845-807-6055 and leave your first name, last name, and a callback number, or email hope@hopescompass.org and include Shine The Light in the subject line of the email.

For the past few years, the museum has been closed to visitors during the winter. Shine the Light is a way to have artwork displayed on the first, second, and third floors year-round. This project is a collaboration between two local nonprofits, the Liberty Museum and Arts Center and Hope’s Compass. Both organizations look forward to seeing the artists’ outcomes for this new venture. It provides another way to share arts and history with pedestrians, drivers, and passengers. It is a beautiful first step for the community.
