Damascus, PA-- Farm Arts Collective continues its workshop series with a song-writing workshop led by song-writer musician and Farm Arts Collective composer Doug Rogers. Doug is a prolific songwriter and will be sharing his skills in a 2-part workshop to be held Thursdays, February 20th and 27th at 6 PM at the Farm Arts Collective on Willow Wisp Organic Farm, 38 Hickory Lane, Damascus, PA 18415. The workshop cost is by donation or Pay-What-You-Can.
Songwriting Workshop #1 (February 20th)
Introduction, philosophy, technique, with songwriter Doug Rogers who has created many incredible and memorable tunes for the Dream on the Farm series. Doug will give participants a songwriting assignment which will be brought in the following week.
Songwriting Workshop #2 (February 27th)
Participants will share their compositions with each other and receive detailed feedback and next-steps advice from the teacher. The possibility of a continued songwriters’ circle will be proposed.
Doug Rogers has followed a dual-track career in music and theatre. He is currently a founding member and resident composer of Farm Arts Collective with whom he has written music and performed in the Dream on the Farm plays: The Extinction Event, The Scientists, Tavern at the Edge of the World, which featured his mini-opera, “The Hole in Sky,” The More Things Change, Conference for those Still Living. Other recent Farm Arts productions include Trees, Shakespeare on the Farm, and prior to that, Doug performed in Courage with Tannis Kowalchuk produced by NACL Theatre (Governor’s Island). Doug currently performs and tours with his band, Beat the Devil. Doug began his theatre career in his home state of Indiana where he founded Bloomington Playwright’s Project and created the role of C.C. Showers in Jim Leonard, Jr’s play, The Diviners. Doug moved to New York City and worked with Waterline Theatre Company and Jack Garret, producing the musicals Les Trois Guitar fon du Camping and Bye Bye Incubi, and The Sea Devil, for which he wrote music, lyrics, and book. He performed in plays by Ruth Margraff, Greg Armknect and Jack Garret. As a musician he performed with the NYC musical group, The Gurners, with Patrick Nimo, Doug Durning, Tony Trout, and Greg Armknect. In the 1980’s Doug played bass with the no-wave band, the Dilletantes, along with Fred Ross, Ray Linehan, and Emily Jackson.
