Sullivan County Conservation Club crowns “King of the Ice” winners

WHITE LAKE –– For 40 years, the Sullivan County Conservation Club has presented the area’s premier ice fishing contest - The King of the Ice.  This year’s event was held on February 16 on White Lake, in coordination with the White Lake Fire Company.

While overall attendance was down due to less-than-perfect weather conditions, almost 200 dedicated anglers still participated, for the chance to bring in the “big one” and earn the title of King.

The winner of this year’s King of the Ice trophy was Mark Brennan who landed a 4.5 pound, 22” trout.  The day also included raffles and drawings.  Mootz Tree Trimming and the Mootz family (long-time participants in this event), not only donated firewood for the fire-pit warming station but also donated a cord of kiln-dried firewood that was raffled off to benefit the Conservation Club’s youth programs.

Sponsor fees, donations, and proceeds from the day’s event, all go toward helping the Conservation Club fund their ongoing conservation efforts, and youth and adult safety and education programs held throughout the year. For additional pictures from this year’s contest look for the Sullivan County Conservation Club on Facebook.
