LOCH SHELDRAKE — The SUNY Sullivan Foundation is delighted to provide New York taxpayers an extraordinary opportunity to save on taxes while supporting their local community college.
Through the SUNY Impact Foundation NYS Charitable Tax Credit Program, qualifying donors receive up to an 85% New York State tax credit on approved gifts of $10,000 to $100,000. Donors who itemize may also be eligible to deduct the remaining 15% of the gift on their state and federal tax returns. In other words, participants direct a portion of their state tax dollars toward needed equipment, emergency funds, and other priorities benefiting SUNY Sullivan students. What could be better?
For example, an approved $10,000 contribution may generate up to an $8,500 credit against the donor’s New York State tax liability.
“This program gives donors an opportunity to support students and programs here in Sullivan County while receiving a substantial state tax benefit,” said Meg Sullivan, co-chair of the SUNY Sullivan Foundation Board. “It creates a meaningful connection between local philanthropy and the success of our students.”
Keeping support local
Funds raised through the program remain with SUNY Sullivan, supporting students, instructional equipment, and other initiatives that expand educational opportunities in the region.
SUNY Sullivan first participated in the program in 2025. The Foundation is encouraging alumni, business owners, retirees, families, and other supporters with New York State tax liability to consider participating again this year.
“We encourage SUNY Sullivan supporters to take advantage of this opportunity, particularly given the limited application period,” said Foundation Board Co-Chair Elyssa Rubin. “Submitting an application early allows donors time to familiarize themselves with the process and fulfill any requirements.”
How the program works
Gift amount: $10,000 minimum; $100,000 maximum per donor
Application deadline: September 30
Approval: SUNY Impact Foundation confirms authorized gift amounts in early October
Payment deadline: Gifts must be received in full by November 25, 2026; stock and wire transfers must be initiated by November 23
Tax credit: Donors receive a certificate to claim the credit when filing their 2026 New York State taxes
Eligible donors must be New York State residents or otherwise have New York State tax liability and must participate as individuals. Donor-advised funds, family foundations, IRAs, S corporations, and corporate gifts are not eligible.
The program is capped at $10 million statewide. If applications from participating SUNY campuses exceed that amount, approved contributions may be prorated.
The SUNY Impact Foundation NYS Charitable Tax Credit Program is authorized under New York State’s Charitable Tax Credit for Higher Education program and is available through participating SUNY campuses.
