un was in the air Saturday as kites took to the skies at SUNY Sullivan for their 33rd Annual SpringFest: Kites, College & Community. Embracing those three words, there was no shortage of community spirit in the college’s courtyard and front lawn.

The event featured free kites for the first 300 children, as well as an inflatable slide, obstacle course and bounce house along the southeast side of the main driveway. In the lower square of the courtyard, farm animals like chickens, goats and sheep were front and center.

Also present was a student art show, as well as a large collection of local craft and nonprofit vendors eager to offer their wares. Food was on the menu as well, as attendees could satisfy their hunger at a wide variety of vendors, including returning favorites Cousins Maine Lobster and Love, Lemon, USA.

Joining in on the festivities was SUNY Sullivan itself, which held an Admissions Open House that gave prospective students and their families the chance to check out campus programs and resources. The open house included information on the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), campus tours and access to financial aid staff and admissions.

Those students could also get in the know about the Sullivan Promise Scholarship, which provides one year of free tuition and fees to eligible Sullivan County residents who graduate high school or earn a GED between 2022 and 2026. Additionally, instant acceptance opportunities and on-site applications were available to those who came with their transcripts.

Proceeds from the event also benefited the SUNY Sullivan Foundation.
