NARROWSBURG – Delaware Valley Arts Alliance (DVAA) proudly announces the opening of two new group exhibitions, (T)Here in the Alliance Gallery and Fellows in the Loft Gallery. These group exhibitions are presented as part of DVAA’s ongoing 50th Anniversary programing. They celebrate the organization’s home, Narrowsburg, NY, and the community of artists that have been directly supported by Individual Artist Fellowships.
Presented in conjunction with DVAA’s 50th Anniversary, (T)Here is an exhibition that contemplates individual and collective memory of place, and how the way in which an artist shapes and interprets their surroundings can serve as a lasting record of that place. Three artists featured in the exhibition – Francis Cape, Jorge Colombo, and Brea Souders, all full or part-time residents of Narrowsburg – each construct a vantage point through which we are invited to consider how one shapes an understanding, a sense of (T)Here.
Organized as a series of thematic ‘zines, Jorge Colombo’s ongoing cataloging of Narrowsburg’s denizens and informal landmarks constructs a sense of place that is both shared and specific to one person. In her series End of the Road, Brea Souders’ documentation of anonymous individuals isolated on a country road, coexists between the intimate and the removed, a moment that is rooted in place yet floating in transience.
With his series Community Chairs Model sculpture Francis Cape’s installation offers a platonic suite that encompasses distinct eras and circles within a community, constructed with white pine sourced from Narrowsburg and surrounding towns. Curated by Ariel Shanberg.
Fellows surveys eight years of visual artists who have been supported through the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance’s Individual Artist Fellowship. Formerly known as “Artists in the Community,” the fellowship is a New York State Council on the Arts regrant program administered by DVAA to support artists living and working in Sullivan County. Bringing together photography, painting, collage, sculpture, drawing, and interdisciplinary practices, the exhibition reflects the breadth of artistic inquiry sustained within the region.
Artists in the show include Bobbie Oliver (2019 Fellow), Kaitlyn Danielson (2021 Fellow), Kathleen Anderson (2021 Fellow), Amy Yoes (2022 Fellow), Bobby Abate (2023 Fellow), Kelley Simons (2024 Fellow), Douglas Shindler (2024 Fellow), Hai Zhang (2025 Fellow), and Kelly O’Brien (2026 Fellow). Curated by Tanner Simon.
Opening Receptions for both exhibitions will take place on Saturday, August 1st from 4-6pm. Both exhibitions are on view August 1st – September 13th. DVAA is located at 37 Main Street, Narrowsburg, NY. For more information, visit DelawareValleyArtsAlliance.org.
