My sister is notorious for making turkey burgers whenever she is in town and I recently made them as a healthier option to the standard beef patty at home. Turkey burgers provide around 22 grams of protein and are much lower in calories and total fat than beef burgers. Since there is so little fat, I like to heavily season them with salt and pepper, sometimes onion and garlic powder, and load on the toppings. This week I placed my turkey burgers inside a pita pocket and topped with tatziki for a Mediterranean flair, but feel free to eat them however you choose!
Makes 4 servings
1 lb ground turkey
1 egg beaten
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
salt/pepper
2 cloves minced garlic
¼ cup chopped yellow onion
Tatziki dressing, pita pockets, olives, tomatoes for serving
Mix together your turkey, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, onion and a healthy dose of salt and pepper until combined. Shape into 4 patties about ½ inch thick and bake for 30-40 minutes at 350 degrees. Instead of baking, my sister likes to broil hers when she makes them, at about 6 minutes per side. This will give the patties a crispier texture. I placed my turkey burger inside a pita and topped with some tatziki sauce and my favorite homemade pickles. You could top it with olives, feta, and summer tomatoes, or on a classic bun with ketchup and mustard. It’s as easy to make as it sounds! I hope you enjoy this summer alternative meal and try it out!
