CLIFTON PARK – In their final gymnastics meet of the regular season, Tweeds Gymnastics’ competition team hit the road to compete in the 6th Annual Mad Hatter at World Class Gymnastics in Clifton Park. In just a few short weeks, the levels 2-4 competition teams will participate in the NY State Gymnastics Championships in Brentwood, NY on Long Island. This season, every gymnast competing in the previously mentioned compulsory levels has earned their spot to participate in the state meet competition.
Seven-year-old Dionne Liles competed for the first time this weekend, joining the team just a few short months ago. Dionne finished in the top spot in the all-around for her age group. As for the remainder of the level two team, Lucy Niforatos, Jamie Grey, Morgan Myers, and Amelia D’agata, their combined score of 183.375 was enough to bring home another second-place banner this season! “We have a few things we need to work on before states in a few weeks, but they are small corrections,” said Head Coach Pedro Tweed. “I’m pleased at how they performed this weekend after working so hard in the gym.”
The level 3 and 4 teams also had a solid showing, with their top scores coming in the floor exercise. Alessandra Stanley and Amaya Burton both scored a 9.35 in their floor routines on levels 3 and 4, respectively.
Tweed went on to say, “They’re getting better, and now they’re starting to realize how good they really are!”
