NARROWSBURG – The Upper Delaware Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (UDUUF) will hold its annual Bud Rue Memorial Walk for Social Justice on Sunday, October 25. Started in 1993 by the late Bud Rue, who died during the first walk on October 24, 1993, the event has raised more than $4,000 per year for local organizations serving social justice and community well-being.
Walkers contribute what they can afford, and many solicit their family, associates, and neighbors to make tax-deductible contributions earmarked for the BRM Social Justice Fund. Proceeds are divided equally among four direct-service groups: Wayne County Habitat for Humanity, Wayne County’s Victims Intervention Program (VIP), Sullivan Allies Leading Together (SALT), and Growing Older Together (GOT). Distribution follows in the spring after pledges are collected.
The route is an easy stroll through the Narrowsburg flats, beginning after a short worship service in the Union. A sweep car will make the circuit for any tired walkers.
Those planning to attend the pre-walk 10:15 am Sunday service in Room 102 of the Narrowsburg Union, 7 Erie Avenue, are asked to park at the far end of the lot, in the gravel area, and not to use the parking spots close to the building.
Following the walk, the Rev. Laurie Stuart, the UDUUF president, invites all participants to a potluck social hosted by the fellowship at the offices of The River Reporter, 93 Erie Avenue, one block down from the Union. All are welcome to participate.
The public is invited to walk and/or donate. Register at upperdelawareuu.org and download a pledge sheet or donate on the same site. For more information, call 845-252-6783 or email uduuf2022@gmail.com.
