Year-End Giving: Investing in the Future of the County

MONTGOMERY – As the year ends, many residents reflect on the causes and communities that matter most to them. Year-end giving is not only a time-honored tradition, but also an opportunity to make a lasting local impact. One of the most effective ways to do so is by supporting the Community Foundation of Orange, Sullivan and Rockland (CFOSR).

Community Foundations are unique charitable organizations dedicated to strengthening the places we call home. Unlike national charities, Community Foundations focus exclusively on local needs—supporting nonprofits, initiatives, and programs that directly improve the quality of life in their own regions. From education and healthcare to housing, arts, environment, and social services, Community Foundations respond to the priorities of their communities.

There are nearly 900 Community Foundations across the United States, collectively serving millions of people. What they share is a deep commitment to local philanthropy: connecting donors with causes they care about and ensuring charitable dollars are used where they are needed most.

Here in Orange, Sullivan, and Rockland Counties, the Community Foundation plays a vital role in addressing both immediate challenges and long-term opportunities. Through grantmaking, donor-advised funds, scholarships, and special initiatives, the CFOSR supports local nonprofit organizations that serve our neighbors every day. Because the Foundation is rooted in the community, it has a clear understanding of emerging needs and trusted relationships with organizations on the ground. In 2025, the community foundation was home to more than 450 funds and distributed grants of nearly $4 million, with over $735,000.00 in scholarships alone to area students.

Year-end gifts to CFOSR Funds are an investment in the future. Donors can give to existing funds via our website or work with the CFOSR to create a fund that reflects their personal values and philanthropic goals. As you consider your charitable giving this season, think local. A gift to the CFOSR ensures that your generosity stays close to home—supporting the people, programs, and places that make Orange, Sullivan, and Rockland Counties strong.
