Yulan dons their green apparel

Margie Granese of Minisink Ford, the Coordinator of the St. Anthony’s Church Food Pantry, is kicking it up celebrating St. Patricks Day along with volunteers Tina Stoyanova of Yulan and Maryanne Migliorino of Barryville as the volunteer members of the Pantry celebrate over 25 years of service to the Town of Highland community.

These lovely Colleens, Tina Rupp of Greeley, PA, and Pammy Fuller of Barryville, have Irish eyes smiling and enjoyed the Parade Floats and fire trucks at the St. Patricks Day Parade in Yulan.

First time marchers in the Parade representing The Barryville Runners Club were Amanda Yang, Henry Dickson, Diana Yang and four-year-old Martin Yang-Dickson and two year old Mila Yang-Dickson all decked out in the finest Irish greenery.

The highlight of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade is the lead off by the statue of St. Patrick, which was restored last year by Andrew Valenti, and who this year built a specialized carrying platform. The honor guards selected this year to carry were Town of Highland Supervisor John Pizzolato, Matt Nelson, town of Highland Councilman Tom Migliorino and Roswell Hamrick.

Shane Pearson, the President of the Marion O’Neill Culture Club and this year’s Parade Grand Marshal. He almost got a ride in a classic Chevrolet red convertible in the Parade. As luck would have it, he ended up walking the route instead.

The Irish have an old saying about when it rains on St. Patrick’s Day that “it’s the Saint himself making it a soft day and sending down his special blessings to those who show him honor.”

Such was a blessed day in Yulan, for the second annual St Patrick’s Day. Town people gathered in the soft rain to enjoy the celebration of the Parade and see fire trucks and ambulances and honor their volunteer first responders, elected officials, floats putting their best foot forward for local businesses and community organizations and the entertainment of the live bands.

Some kept up the well known tradition of wearing of the green, drowning a Shamrock in whiskey, and having some delicious Irish food at the Crossroads Lounge and Bar in Yulan. The Town of Highland and the Marion O’Neill Culture Club had the perfect mix of a cultural celebration and a wonderful hometown parade.
