One flight of a two-story staircase leading to the second floor of the Villa Roma Ski Chalet in Callicoon collapsed late Sunday afternoon, leaving 10 people injured. Emergency personnel from several fire departments and ambulance corps from around the county, including Upper Delaware Ambulance Corps, Jeffersonville First Aid and Fallsburg, responded to the scene as well as the New York State Police and Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office. State Police are investigating the incident but did not respond by presstime. Ten Cornell Medical students were injured in the accident, along with a staff member from the Villa Roma. According to published reports, eight of the injured were taken to Garnet Medical Center in Callicoon and the other two were taken to Garnet Medical Center Catskills in Harris. Most of the injuries were minor and as of presstime yesterday everyone had been released from the hospital. The Villa Roma declined comment on the story.
