Agapito III hits 300 & 816

High scoring bowlers continue to reach for perfection and such was the case for 24-year-old Monticello bowler Pedro Agapito III in the September 27 Kiamesha Lanes Friday Mixed league as he found the pocket for 12 perfect strikes and recorded his 29th 300-game and his 28th 800-plus series.

The total series included a 247, 300, 269 for a 816 on lanes 11-12 using a 900 Global Ordinance Pearl bowling ball.

Pedro, in the Friday Mixed league, bowls on the We Got Balls team with team members Michelle Macedonio, Ronald Lemon and Dave Sawall.

When asked if all the strikes were in the pocket, Pedro replied, “of course lol.”

Bowling for some 15 years, Pedro bowls four nights a week, Monday Men's and Friday Mixed at Kiamesha, Wednesday at Port Jervis Bowl and Thursday at Chester.

His current average for all leagues is 209 at Port Jervis Bowl, 244 at Colonial Lanes in Chester and 249 and 250 at Kiamesha Lanes.

Engaged to Angela Scott, the couple expect a baby due in November.

Pedro is employed by Rolling V Bus and Sureway Taxi.

Last year Pedro took his amateur career into the Professional Bowlers Association arena during the week of April 16 at the PBA Masters Tournament at the OnCenter in Syracuse.

Prior to competing in his first professional competition Pedro said, “My goal is to be there ... have fun ... and don't think too much.” Upon his return home Pedro noted, “The tournament was a great experience for me ... the shot was tough but I would love to try it again.”

“That Masters Tournament was an experience but it also shows me I gotta push myself harder and not think too much,” Agapito noted.

The proof of the pudding is that he is pushing himself by expanding league competition in both Port Jervis and Chester, and I expect to hear great achievements from Pedro in months and years to come.

Bowling Tip

By Mike Luongo

How many people are thinking about or actually following safety guidelines while at the bowling alley.

Bowling safety is a topic that is not on many people's minds when they enter the alley.

There are so many ways in which you can get hurt while bowling.

First, when you are just walking around, you should make sure of where you are. You should never be behind a person that is swinging a bowling ball.

While bowling, you should be the only person standing on the approach to the lane.

If there is someone in a lane next to you then you should wait because some bowlers tend to walk off to the sides after throwing their ball and do not realize that they have walked into the next lane.

It is absolutely necessary that you properly warm up before starting to bowl...will prevent you from getting strained muscles.

Ensure that you are wearing proper footwear and any bowler will want their own properly fit bowling shoes.

Be aware of any liquid on the floor. This could lead to sudden painful stopping or slipping.

Always pick up your bowling ball with both hands. This will reduce strain by at least 50 percent.

Make sure you stay behind the foul line as the area after that is completely oiled.

Be alert while bowling. Safety should be considered at all times.
