He was born on July 2, 1944 in Long Island City, New York to Agnes Treiber and LeRoy T. Brighton.

Steve was a man with many stories and was ready with a joke or prank no matter where he was. He loved his family with his whole heart and was very proud of how much it had grown. He was an avid golfer and always rooted for his favorite team, the Mets.

Steve served in the U.S. Army from 1962-1964 and became a dedicated member of the VFW post 5497 out of Otisville.  He served as the proud Postmaster of Bethel for 10 years. Steve was also a member of the Monticello Fire Department for 49 years as well as a member of the Sullivan County Fire Police Association. He was a dedicated member of his church (St. Peter’s) where he was a Eucharistic Minister and lector for many years. Steve or Mr. B, as many knew him, served as a youth leader for the local CYO.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Margaret “Peggy” Brighton, their three children: Connie Van Keuren, her husband Todd, Christopher Brighton, his wife Jessica and Cara Nicholson and husband Robbie. His nine grandchildren; Corey Van Keuren (Alyssa Van Keuren), Jenna Booth (Bo Booth), Taylor Van Keuren (Lauren Van Keuren), Brandi Coleman (Justin Coleman), Jack Brighton (Michaella Decker), Logan Brighton, Emma Nicholson, Delaney Nicholson and RJ Nicholson. His eight; great-grandchildren Eliana, Chase, Ella, Sadie, Ellis, Lincoln, Jaxon and Olivia.
