Forestburgh adopts Hazard Mitigation Plan

FORESTBURGH – The Forestburgh Town Board adopted the 2026 Sullivan County Hazard Mitigation Plan during its Oct. 1st meeting, making the town eligible for future federal hazard mitigation funding.

The plan, developed as part of a countywide effort, identifies potential hazards and mitigation measures for communities throughout Sullivan County. In Forestburgh, flooding, storm damage, downed trees and prolonged power outages were among the hazards identified.

The board noted that adopting the plan does not commit the town to completing every project identified but allows the municipality to seek available funding through hazard mitigation programs. The resolution passed unanimously.

The board also began its review of the proposed 2027 budget. The tentative budget currently reflects department requests, with the board scheduled to hold a budget workshop later in the month.

Unexpended balances have not yet been included in the preliminary figures, which could reduce the amount ultimately raised through property taxes.

Supervisor Dan Hogue also discussed the replacement of a leaking fuel tank at the Highway Department. Although the town has advertised the project, no bids were received. Therefore, the town is seeking legal guidance on whether they can obtain direct price quotes after two unsuccessful bidding attempts.

An update was also provided on the proposed Town Line Solar project. The application has been deemed incomplete by the state, requiring additional information before the review can continue (see article, page 1A). The board encouraged the community to continue following the updates of the project.
