JEFFERSONVILLE — Andy Karadontes from Jeffersonville has been competing in motorcycle competitions for several decades. The now 65-year-old currently has 703 career wins and can’t remember a time in which he wasn’t riding. The man who began racing motorcycles when he was 14-years-old still has been able to keep it going for 51 years.

“I love to win,” Karadontes said. “The competitiveness and adrenaline of racing has kept me going.”

This year, Karadontes is currently leading in the points for Nationals, which end in October.  He has won the 50-plus and 60-plus classes in Binghamton as part of his successes this year. Karadontes also took first place in the 60-plus and 1980’s 750cc classes at Ashland Ohio Speedway this past July.

“It’s been a good year,” he said.

Karadontes said that there is a lot of traveling with Nationals, as he has competed in races throughout the midwest and back home.

“I have never really had a bad experience anywhere,” he said. “One of my favorite tracks has been the one in Ashton, Ohio. It’s a great track, but really a lot of the tracks in Ohio are awesome. Florida also has great tracks and most tracks I’ve ever rode on have been terrific.”

Karadontes said that he hopes he can keep going with the racing. He said that he doesn’t want to quit but feels that the end is getting close.

“Thank God I can keep it up for now and that I am healthy,” Karadontes said.
