ROCK HILL – Assembly Member Paula Elaine Kay (D-Rock Hill) announced her first bill was recently signed into law by the governor, with the legislation helping expand access to prenatal vitamins for New Yorkers with commercial health insurance plans (Ch.74 of 2025).
“Prenatal vitamins are essential for a healthy pregnancy, and parents should not have to worry about affording prenatal care,” said Kay. This legislation helps ensure expecting mothers have access to the supplements they need so that they can focus on raising a healthy baby. I’m grateful that the governor signed this bill into law, and I will keep advocating for legislation that puts the health and safety of our community first.”
The enacted legislation requires commercial health insurance plans that do not provide coverage of prescription drugs to provide coverage for prenatal vitamins, as well as prohibits imposing annual deductibles and coinsurance on covered prenatal vitamins. Kay’s legislation builds upon previous measures the Assembly Majority, and her predecessor, Aileen Gunther, have spearheaded to remove financial barriers to prenatal care.
