Assemblywoman Gunther: Assembly budget proposal puts holistic care for our communities first

Posted

SULLIVAN COUNTY — “As Chair of the Assembly’s Committee on Mental Health, my commitment lies in advancing a comprehensive healthcare approach that prioritizes both physical and mental well-being of my community.

“Having dedicated much of my life to serving in the healthcare field, I intimately understand the challenges our healthcare system faces and the critical importance of securing funding. Our ongoing budget negotiations are an opportunity to enact meaningful change, and I am personally invested in ensuring that our proposals reflect the needs of New Yorkers. Through innovative measures and targeted funding, we aim to break down barriers to access and address the disparities that exist in healthcare.

“In conjunction with healthcare initiatives, I am advocating for funding for local organizations, like Bethel Woods Center for the Arts and Catholic Charities, that promote artistic growth and provide vital support services. These initiatives are crucial for nurturing our communities and fostering a culture of holistic wellness.

“The strength of our future depends on what we do now to create a supportive space for our youngest. Our proposal prioritizes increased funding for foundation aid, pushing back against proposed cuts that would otherwise undermine vital programs and resources essential for our students’ success. With a $1.8 billion increase in school aid funding over the 2023-24 school year, we are committed to providing our schools with the resources they need to thrive.

“As we navigate the complexities of the budget process, my determination remains unyielding. Collectively, we are creating a present and future where every individual has the opportunity to thrive.”
