WURTSBORO — Bashakill Bazaar celebrated its one-year anniversary last Friday with a Ribbon Cutting and Open House, drawing local residents, business leaders, and supporters to the eclectic vintage market at 138 Sullivan Street.
The shop first opened its doors on May 2, 2024. To commemorate the milestone, a ribbon cutting ceremony—co-hosted by the Sullivan County Chamber of Commerce and the Sullivan Catskills Visitors Association—was held on May 2, along with community festivities.
The day began with a popular Hibino Lunch Pop-Up, offering fresh onigiri from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. At 3 p.m., guests gathered for the formal ribbon cutting and a celebratory toast with chamber and visitor association representatives.
Since its opening, Bashakill Bazaar has grown into a vibrant multi-vendor hub featuring over 30 booths of primarily vintage goods. Shoppers can find everything from antiques, vintage clothing, vinyl records, and home décor to furniture, photography equipment—including lenses and film types—and local artisan goods such as Wurtsboro Wares.
As manager Sara Nahas—who also runs Brother’s Vintage and Variety—puts it, the Bazaar offers “lots of fun stuff.” She manages daily operations and plays a key role in supporting the vendor community.
“We’re very excited for the kick-off of this year [season],” said Nahas. “It’s been great being here for a year, we’ve got a lot of support from the community, but we also get a lot of repeat business which is thrilling. [We get] a lot of visitors from the city, so we’re excited to be drawing people to Wurtsboro—and we’re really excited to be in Wurtsboro because it’s a really fun and happening locale.”
The anniversary celebration also underscored the Bazaar’s broader role as a community gathering space. In addition to retail, the venue regularly hosts events like its popular monthly Sip & Shop, where guests can enjoy refreshments while browsing the rotating selection of treasures.
“Wurtsboro is experiencing a revival right now that we’re excited to be a part of,” added Nahas.
Bashakill Bazaar is open Thursday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, contact bashakillbazaar@gmail.com.
