GRAHAMSVILLE -- This vastly abbreviated basketball season is just about over. March 1 ushers in the postponed fall season and thoughts will turn to whether soccer and football will really materialize. Certainly cross-country and volleyball will go forward as they are far less dependent on the weather.

But for those athletes that live for the life on the hardwood, any victories recorded in this brevity of a season will be cherished and remembered. So it was that the Lady Bears of Tri-Valley held sway over the Livingston Manor Lady Wildcats in a game that was far closer than the final score would indicate.

While the Lady Bears got out to an 11-2 early lead, Manor closed the first quarter with a 6-0 run to trail by a bucket heading into the second frame. T-V led 18-13 at the half and 28-25 at the end of the third quarter. Manor never got the lead but was within striking distance.

The fourth quarter proved to be the difference as T-V outscored Manor 11-1 to garner the win. It was a nice counterweight to the prior game in which Seward outlasted Tri-Valley in Grahamsville 46-38.

In that fray Seward was led by Shannon Sgombick with 13 and Kassidy Degroat with 12. Tri-Valley was paced by Rebecca Musa with 15 and Jena Carmody with 13. Tri-Valley cut Seward's lead to three late in the fourth quarter and then had several costly turnovers. Seward made five foul shots in the fourth and a late three pointer by Katie Mulhare to seal the game.

In the Manor game Musa led her team with 12 points while Jena Carmody posted 11.

Samantha Severing and Mackenzie Carlson each had eight points for the Lady Wildcats. Manor was coming off a 52-33 win over Liberty earlier in the week. Severing was very active with 24 points in that game accounting for almost 46 percent of Manor's scoring.
