Brush fire near Milanville draws multi-agency response

MILANVILLE, Pa. — A brush fire broke out along River Road near Milanville on Monday afternoon, drawing a multi-agency response from fire departments in both Pennsylvania and New York.

The fire was reported around 12:45 p.m., and firefighters had the blaze under control by approximately 2 p.m.

Early estimates from responders placed the burn area at about four acres. No injuries were reported.

The fire occurred near the Delaware River, across from the Skinner’s Falls area and Landers River Trips campground. Access to the active burn area was limited due to steep, wooded terrain, with crews operating further uphill.

According to John Hauschild, director of safety and fire coordinator for Sullivan County, multiple New York departments assisted at the scene, including Narrowsburg/Lava, Lake Huntington and Callicoon. At the same time, crews were responding to a garbage truck rollover on County Route 114 (see story on page 2A).

Jeffersonville Fire Department stood by in Hortonville to cover Callicoon and surrounding areas, while Yulan Fire Department was placed on standby for Narrowsburg, Hauschild said in a statement. Pennsylvania crews, including Beach Lake Fire Department and Welcome Lake Fire Department, also responded.
